BangShifter John Dent of the Denver, Colorado area sent us the tip on this ad and when he told us that we’d love it he was right! Lots of times funny CL ads are hawking some uninspiring junk and the author is looking to make the ad funny to get any interest at all. This guy doesn’t have that problem. The car that’s being sold (a 1955 Olds) is a neat piece and the ad just augments what is already good. Seriously, if you think an ad that begins with this isn’t going to be good, your opinion is wrong:
This is a 1955 Olds Rocket 88. This is not a luxury SUV, or a maintenance-free disposable import. It is solid, has wind noise, and character.
It’s a Hot Rod. It rides/drives like a Hot Rod. All of these are GOOD things.
It is not new, it is not pristine, but it is from Co and it’s Cool
It honestly only gets better from there as the dude weeds out people who should not own this car through a series of questions that will have you smiling and nodding as you think of all the people he’s talking about! Selling stuff on CL usually cuts one of two ways. The first is that you post something, from a toaster to a car and it sells within a few hours or a day and the transaction is over. The second is that you find some idiot jerk who wants to turn the sale into a hostage negotiation and it becomes the most annoying and painful experience of your life. I have never sold a car on CL but I think this guy has because clearly he does not want his time wasted.

After all that you’d think the car had an engine with some balls. Instead it has a wimpy small block Chevy. The least it could have is a big block with some real cubic inches. Preferably and Olds 455.
But I did like the ad.
I was thinking the same thing. sbc, hot roddings version of copy and paste. kinda like what this dude did when he ripped off the jeep Cherokee ad from a few months ago.
I’m with 6pac.. good ad, but it needs some real power. 455’s rule!

Ad would be better if he hadn’t ripped off the original poster’s Jeep ad verbatim.
I still like the ad. My biggest problem is he builds it up like a real mans car then announces it has an engine for the wimps he says the ain’t for.
