Rough Start: Just Your Everyday, Super-Clean V8-Swapped GMC Jimmy

From the outside, the only tell that this GMC Jimmy has even been messed with is the absence of the model nameplate off of the front fender. Otherwise, this little SUV is like the millions of others like it that you would’ve seen on the roads twenty years ago. Small, simple and right-sized, the little two-door sport-utes caught on like wildfire and held on, even with the wheezing smogger mills that GM was throwing under the hoods. No 2.8L V6 ever deserved a callout badge. But the TPI mill under the hood, likely a rescue from either a later model truck or F-body, would merit one. Even if it was running horsepower figures, the torque would be welcomed like none other and the exhaust note would go from flatulent to fabulous.  If a budget ride that rolls right now is your current target, then this GMC needs to be on your short list. The entry price is $3,600 and other than a CV boot, ball joints (which come with the truck), a repaired air conditioner and a cure for that droopy 1980s faux mouse fur headliner, you are good to go. Snap up the truck, get the ball joints and CV boot done. The headliner is pretty straightforward to do, and save up to get the A/C fixed. But don’t change the way it looks…that needs no work whatsoever!

TPI: The best truck motor GM never put in a truck. Nice to see that corrected in such a clean way.
