This Might Be The Perfect Econobox! Chevette Greatness Baby!

The Chevrolet Chevette was one of those little econobox cars that everyone hated that was into hot rods, but that still sold more than 7 Million units over its lifespan. Clearly these little cars had a place during the gas crunch and subsequent economy years of the 1980s. They have subsequently become popular on the dragstrip, usually with more tire than anyone needs, and with such light weight that even a plane jan combo flat hauls ass. Of course those that were made into Pro Street Cars during the mid 1980s and into the early 1990s, made for a pretty big statement. I still have memories of tubbed Chevettes and would love to have one. But this wouldn’t be the one I’d Pro Street. Or at least not yet. I’d drive this sucker in stock form and love it every single day. Just look at this little sucker!

It is amazing how clean this car is, and that it only has 25,000 miles on it. It is nearly perfect, with the only problem being an automatic transmission. With that said, since it is a rear drive car a T5 or something would be pretty bitchin in this sucker. I bet we can make that happen. If I had this thing I would drive it daily. How about you?

That price is a major score. Most sellers think that their junk is worth a million bucks. One of the readers nearby should scoop it up. Cheap way to stay in the hobby.

I was sure that this was one of Rocco’s discoveries when I saw this oddity. We used to say that you only needed to own three tools to keep these cars running. Hammer, vice grips and a screwdriver!

Beats the heck out of the computer heavy eco boxes we have now days. At least you could work on this one.

The perfect econo box was a late 70’s VW rabbit diesel Cheap–would go 300K miles or until exhaust manifold cracked and all the while getting over 50 MPG
Roll up your windows with hand power and save the weight worked
I hate VW trash but that was one they got dead on right as an Econo Box

Drop in a mild SBC & a narrowed 9″ just like Hot Rod did in the 80s & you have a stoplight king. Might have to fab some Chevette looking wheels to fit some more meat in the small tubs to get the thing to just hook up.

    Ultimate sleeper.
