We can’t imagine being in the junkyard business these days. It cannot be easy. For decades it must have been pretty straightforward. Score a big tract of land way outside of town, put up a fence, and start piling things up. Environmental concerns? Not so much. Of course the world has come to realize that allowing all types of liquids to drain into the soil is not a good thing, nor is it good to have mountains of tires that could become long burning blazes.
According to WaterWorld.com, it seems the state of Connecticut has been telling these things to junkyard owner Joseph Salg this for a while, actually handing out fines for several violations on his property. Hell, they even revoked the business license for the junkyard because of violations.
Salg has now been put on a plan to clean up the property. The state has concerns, specifically with the mountains of tires on his land and the leaking of chemicals into the ground. How big are the tire piles? He’s been ordered to have 1,500 a month trucked out or risk more penalties. This place sounds like a real mess.
