Detroit, Which Now Looks More Like Venice, Is So Flooded That Factories Have Been Affected

The massive storms and subsequent flooding that Detroit is currently experiencing is so bad that even the manufacturers are being affected. According to the Detroit News, Chrysler’s Sterling Stamping and Warren Stamping plants are running on a reduced rate, while the Sterling Heights assembly plant was shut down. Additionally, the GM Technical Center was shut down. Sterling Heights currently turns out the Chrysler 200, which was recently released and is enjoying a warm reception. There is no word yet on how the flooding will affect vehicle delivery in the long-term, though it’s pretty safe to say that there will be an inventory shortfall for the time being.

We’ve got multiple underpasses that look like that first picture, with 12-14′ of water. They were sending State Police dive teams down to check the cars for people who didn’t make it.

I got trapped at work for a few hours Monday night. Every route out involved an underpass, and they were all full of water and stalled out cars. It sucked. A lot of my friends got their basements flooded, some with raw sewage. I lucked out there.

By all means, come and take it. We’ve got plenty to spare, every underpass in the area is flooded to one degree or another. Many of the freeway underpasses are under 12-14′ of water.
