Update:DMC Racing nears completion on Repairs to Jason Enos’s Outlaw 10.5 Mustang

See our latest updates on this story at the bottom of this page.

Part I:  We were just about sick to our stomach when we heard that Jason Enos’s 1967 Mustang  had caught a case of concrete poisoning at the Ultimate Outlaw Shootout event held at Milan Dragway in Michigan. After all, we had been up close and personal as the final touches were put on the car at DMC Racing in Halifax, Massachusetts. Sure, it was making way more than 2,000hp, but the damn thing was immaculate. After making some test laps at New England Dragway, running 220mph right out of the box, it seemed that Enos would be thumping the competition right off the bat.

Crappily, on a semi-final run (which Enos left first on) the car drifted slightly out of the groove and in an attempt to win the round, Jason kept the pedal on the wood. The car made a hard move to the left and contacted the wall hard on the front corner of the driver’s side. It then rotated around and slapped the rear quarter panel hard against the wall.

Having seen the level of craftsmanship and time invested in this car, our thoughts quickly shifted to the financial cost of the wreck (after learned that Jason was OK) and then the cost of the repair or the construction of a new car. Enos had an ace up his sleeve though. Being the smart guy that he is, Enos had purchased on-track race car insurance from fellow hard-core drag racer Bill Lutz.

Lots of racers have insurance on their cars, but those policies end when the vehicle turns a tire on the race track. The beauty of the policy Enos has with Lutz is the fact that the coverage starts when the car pulls onto the track. This was probably the single greatest investment of Enos’s life.

We were on hand at DMC Racing with shop owner Dennis MacPherson when he began the process of assessing the damage and figuring what will be needed to get the car back into shape. He reports that working with Bill Lutz has been fantastic so far and he was pretty blown away by the comprehensive nature of the policy. MacPherson hopes that the damage is strictly confined to the chassis area just ahead of the rear motor-plate, but the full situation won’t be known until the engine is pulled from the car, all the front suspension pieces are pulled, and the Mustang is back on a chassis table.

Here’s to hoping he’s right.

We shot a quick gallery of photos showing all the carnage we could see with the car mostly intact. BangShift.com is going to follow the whole tear down and reconstruction of the car from now until it hits the track again.

Part II: DMC Racing in Halifax, Massachusetts in almost done with the rebirth of
Jason Enos’ bitchin ’67 Ten Five Mustang. You’ll remember that we gave
you photos of the autopsy after Jason crashed this new car at Milan
earlier this year. Well we are proud to announce that plans are being
made for testing. With the NHRA UnLeashed event coming up in one week,
and the PSCA Street Car Supernationals in Vegas two weeks later, Enos
has races to run. He and the team at DMC are determined to make it
happen. Check out the photos below to see the progress that has been
made so far. Assembly is currently underway, and we’ll have more photos
soon.
