There are some ideas that humanity may just not be ready for yet. Some things that our species may struggle to embrace as a whole but as the unstoppable march of time carries on, they will be looked at fondly in history. This friends, this is one of those things. A guy on eBay is selling a bad ass airport tug truck that he mounted a backhoe on and presumably used to dig a lot of stuff. The whole rig is as right as rain and we’re kind of in love.
So what is this specifically? You are looking at a PSI Model MB-4 air craft tug that weighs the better part of seven tons, sans backhoe. With an additional ton or so hanging off the back, this thing really is a heavyweight. Power is derived from a Perkins turbo diesel engine and yes, this sucker is four wheel drive and has four wheel steering. The machine has a top speed of 15 mph but on the flip side, it is rated to tow 175,000lbs. Seriously.
The guy is asking like $4,500 bucks for the unit, $5,500 with the backhoe. Who in their right mind would skip buying the backhoe part!
The seller bought it from a Coast Guard location in Massachusetts and having been built in 1988 the tractor has lived a pretty easy life amassing only 744-hours and 27,000 miles of use. You’ll notice a bunch of levers in the cab as well as a hydraulic tank. That is not for the backhoe, all of that stuff is contained on the unit. Those controls are there for adding attachments like a snow plow or similar. We have seen video of these tugs actually pushing and they can move some snow!
A truly beautiful and awesome oddball here.
It’s cute!!
I would have SO MANY uses for this…now I feel that my life is not complete without it!
Years ago My dad bought a short wheel base 80s international two ton that bad a backhoe on it. It had municipal paperwork and hardhats in it, and a very bad clutch. A great thing to have around town because it was a lot faster than a backhoe. Unlike this tughoe.
27000 miles would require 1800 hours at top speed. something doesn\’t add up.
