In terms of custom built ‘caminos this one ranks high on the strangeness and coolness scales for us. The fact that the front end is proportionally off when compared to the business end is tough, but what is compelling about this creation is the fact that it is kind of difficult to determine as to where the Coronet stops and the truck starts. It looks to us like the builder used the doors, windshield, and at least a portion of the roof from the Coronet and then the rear wall of a truck cab. We’re not sure what year and/or make truck cab was used.
Dodge trucks had their filler necks down low until the 1961 model year (as best we can tell) and then they went up to the higher position that this machine has. Is it the back wall from a Dodge truck cab? Your guess is as good as ours. We’re just not sure. The low stance of this this has us kind of captivated and it would looks pretty cool with a decent decent of wheels and a paint job. As far as engines, if it retains the factory Coronet ‘plant we’re talking about 230ci L-head six cylinder or a little Red Ram hemi. We’re getting the sixer vibe from this baby, big time. Maybe we’re wrong. The seller is looking for $2000 and you own it. Work a bargain and take it home for $1500? We’d do it. When have you seen another one?
Are we completely nuts or is this thing oddly cool?
Thanks to Romain Scheibert for the tip!

CL AD: A 1959 DODGE CORNOET-camino
I think this thing is freakin sweet! Ive seen photos of a truck built similarly but using a mid-50’s DeSoto front clip.
I’m almost sure the bed (at least the fenders) are from a 55-57 Chevy Truck with the spare tire cutout

Very interesting conversion, regardless
The bed needs to be sectioned. and the spare tire relief needs filled. I was thinking those fenders look like they are chevy truck sourced.
A solid thumbs up on this one.
It looks like the builder showed some care and ability in the work.
The quirky aesthetics are fun.
I like it!
Ugly Coronet + ugly GM step side bed with spare tire cut out = Fuglymobile
What gets me is that someone actually spent a portion of their short life on earth creating this. Only way this looks worse is with dubs on it.
Yeah, but what have you built lately? Don’t be a dick.
Sure looks ugly….but it is unique. The rear cab might be from a 72-up Dodge, the way the window is recessed. Definitely not a 61-71 Dodge cab, though. The bed is 55-66 chevy/GMC.
Definitely a ’65 to ’71 vintage Dodge D-series rear cut out section of the cab. ’56 2nd-series to ’66 Chevy pickup bed. It’s uglier than a mud fence but still cool. It gets my approval.
Whatever is under the hood, it looks like you’re dragging it home…dig the chain on the ground in front of it.
this is a classic. The owner did do a lot of good work on it.
