eBay Find: A 1968 Corvette With An Eckler’s Sport Wagon Conversion And Romping GM 572ci/720hp Crate Motor!

Well this one is certainly interesting. We found this 1968 Corvette when trolling the halls of eBay for big block ‘Vettes because that’s what kind of mood we were in this morning. This is one that raises the question about whether an immense amount of horsepower can raise a car from the level of weird to the level of awesome. We’re thinking it can. This 1968 Corvette was converted at some point in its life into a “sport wagon” with a kit from Eckler’s. Completely repainted last year, it is in fine shape and frankly, we’re not totally hating the whole sport wagon thing, either. Maybe it is because the paint work is so nice and because it isn’t all ratty, but the whole “shooting brake” shape of the ‘Vette is pleasing in an odd way. Perhaps the other reason we’re feeling the flow here is the monster GM ZZ572/720R crate engine that is lurking under the hood and that shoves power through a Richmond five speed transmission.

The only downside to the 720hp engine are the weenie raised white letter radials on the corners, stock appearing suspension, and the fact that anything more than the minor tip into the throttle would result in more tire smoke than acceleration. Not that we hate burnouts, but we’d want to actually put some of that 720hp to work in accelerating the car! The side pipes are OK, but we’d ditch them because of the cheese-factor. This car would be a prime candidate for tubbing and making into a pro street machine. It would looks cool all hunkered down over a set of giant meats, the wheel tubs have plenty of room in the “station wagon” portion of the program out back, and that motor is screaming for something to get a load on it, like 10.5W tires!

We’ve been showing you a lot of oddball fiberglass stuff here recently, from the VW Camaro kit and VW big rig kit, and the micro car gallery from today, and now this. Maybe we need to step away from the resin for a minute….NAH! The car is for sale with a buy it now price of $27,000. For the motor, the general appearance of the car, and the fact that it is running and driving, that seems close to OK. What do you think?

I had a chopped sedan delivery. It was like driving a submarine, the vision so bad. This thing looks to be like wise.
I’m too cheap to be feeding things like this gas and liking it, too.

it’s cool in a retro-sorta way….I’d tub it also, but a rear hatch entry point would be nicer

….I agree with ’75 duster’ also, about the 70’s vibe…..I guess the ultimate answer would be to have two cars done both ways :<)

  4. roll on

I say make it a street freak and enjoy…….some stacks, straight axle and green tinted windows and let’s roll.
