eBay Find: A Neat 1960 Studebaker Lark Street Gasser – Straight Axle, Small Displacement Greatness!

eBay Find: A Neat 1960 Studebaker Lark Street Gasser – Straight Axle, Small Displacement Greatness!

The gasser and A/FX class at Drag Week this year garnered lots of smiles from fans and fellow racers alike. The cars were all very nostalgic feeling and ran well. I was so into their look and performance, while sitting in the airport on the way home, I went looking for gasser style cars for sale on eBay and found this awesome little 1960 Studebaker Lark that is equipped with a 331ci small block Chevy, a dual quad topped tunnel ram, Speedway motors tube front axle, and a period correct suspension setup. It appears to have the stock paint on it and looks to have been assembled with care. Long story short, this would be our ride on DW 2013, given the money!

Before you laugh about a ‘Stude gasser, remember that Dave Koffel whipped some serious ass in his Studebaker Lark gasser (with Chevy power) in the 1960s. It was the second of his “Flintstone Flyers”.

The seller says that the engine is an old school 331ci SBC created by using a 350ci four bolt main block and a large journal 327 crank. It has iron heads with 1.94″ intake valves and 64cc combustion chambers. At 11:1 compression, we’re thinking that the exhaust note has a nice crisp bark to it and must sound great as the mill breathes through a set of old school fender well headers that dump the gasses into glass pack style mufflers. I’d go for the old school pie crust slicks in the back, but keep the steel wheels for looks.

Being that the seller says all of this stuff is new and the car is hella clean both top and bottom, it looks like an instant cruiser. Running it down the strip would be priority #1 here at BS eastern HQ. Especially after seeing the fun the dudes were having in these style cars bouncing around the central and southern USA last week. Oh, the seller says that the car needs a headliner. Who cars about that? Not me!

Scroll down past the photos and hit the link. Buy this and show up at Drag Week 2013…we dare you!

    A 327 crank in a 350 block is a 327. 327 and 350 both have a 4 inch bore. Maybe 030 over gives it 331 cubes.
Thats a way cool car. Only a 4 gear would make it cooler.

Cool car indeed, but you couldn’t run it in the drag week gasser class….

Rules state wheel wells must be radiused, dumbest fucking rule EVER!
