eBay Find: This 1950s Kellison Could Be The Starting Point For A Bitchin’ Project

eBay Find: This 1950s Kellison Could Be The Starting Point For A Bitchin’ Project

One of the coolest cars we have ever featured on BangShift is a Kellison. Lots of you probably remember the “Zorro’s Charger” Kellison that we ran on the site back in 2012. That was a drag race car with a long history and a look that no amount of artistry could ever replicate. The patina was perfect and the thing was just weird enough to be incredibly neat. We had never seen another Kellison before stumbling upon this eBay ad for an earlier 1950s era Kellison that is for sale. The car is a very rough freak show, but we think that there is gold in them thar’ hills with respect to a project build. Of course we think that for you, not for us. We’re givers, what can we say?

You’ll notice that the body on this car has the same general shape as the later Zorro Kellison it is far wider and we’ll admit a little more awkward. That doesn’t mean we think it stinks, quite the opposite actually. With the right paint on this car, it would be super unique and stunning. It would probably also require five guys working for a month straight to get the body into great condition to have that paint looking show quality. That’s why we’d just leave it as it looks now. You have dignity and taste so that is probably off the table. We understand.

The body is apparently just sitting on the chassis as there are several photos that feature the car virtually “naked”. Said chassis seems to be pretty rudimentary with a pair of big round tube rails running down the middle  that carry the rest of the superstructure. The front end is a solid axle with a transverse leaf spring and a four link style setup mounting it. Out back there are coil over shocks and long triangulated trailing arms mounting the rear end. There are drum brakes on said axle and frankly we’re having a tough time telling if there are brakes mounted on the front of the car. What’s amazing is that with the body on, the car looks very long but with the body off, you can see how short the wheelbase actually is. Passengers are barely ahead of the rear axle when sitting in the car.

This car is a loooooong way off from “being something” but imagine the “something” it could be! We think that there’s potential for a talented builder to really have something cool when this car is completed. C’amon people with talent….do it! We want to follow your progress!
