Money No Object: This 1972 Pontiac LeMans Convertible Has Us Dreaming Of Warmer Days

If you are one of the people who clamor for the first snowfall of the year, I single-handedly blame you for the current situation outside of my front door. It is a misty, gray, muddy mess at BangShift Mid-West. My front yard squishes more than my shoes after walking down the soaked driveway to get the mail. If I were to put the Imperial outside and leave it for a couple of days, you could house a starter family of fish in the driver’s footwell in a week. And as for actually working on a car? Nah, I’m good. I’m a warm-weather person at heart…indoor space is at a premium everywhere you go and I had enough of laying in the gravel and muck from my early years in the Pacific Northwest. I’m a sun worshipper, unabashedly so, and right now I’m in a cold, wet, gray hell.

Seeing this beautiful green 1972 Pontiac LeMans parked along some beautiful beachfront roadway has me dreaming for spring worse than ever. I’m picturing the top down, the 455 talking to me as I cruise down the white fence-lined road that leads into Beech Bend. I’m seeing sunset drives up the vast array of backroads lined by freshly-rowed fields. I’m seeing that car at the drive-in a half-hour from my house when they open back up for the season. Consider it a musclecar if you wish…nobody is going to argue that a Pontiac 455, even a smogged 1972 version, is a potent beast. Consider it gorgeous throwback convertible…nobody is going to argue with the A-body lines and I prefer the 1971-72 nosecone over the 1970. You can consider it plush if you want, and you have some room to stand on with the factory air conditioning, bucket seats and the saddlewood interior. We just know that deep green signifies the arrival of spring, and that the first thing that must be done is that the top has to go down and the miles must be added at a solid pace.

Long live the convertible. It is the most accessible dream machine made.
