Money No Object: An Unrestored 1969 Shelby GT500 In “Yes We’re Envious” Green!

Money No Object: An Unrestored 1969 Shelby GT500 In “Yes We’re Envious” Green!

The 1967-68 Shelby Mustangs might be more iconic and desirable, but for me, the 1969-70 cars just had something more that drew me in. Maybe it’s the wide-open grille and the hood that sported no less than five NACA ducts. Maybe it’s that only 1,500 or so coupes were made and total production might not have crested four thousand. Maybe it’s because you don’t see them outside of shows, ever, but I cannot write enough words about my adoration of the big Shelby Mustang. In 428-powered GT500 guise, you might as well call it done. For everyone who pigeonholes me as a Mopar geek, read closely: if it meant that I could sign my name on the title and take it home today, I’d turn my Imperial into a bonfire with not one shred of issue with my conscience.

1969-70 Shelby Mustangs are worth coin, due to their rarity and typically ideal options listing. Is there such a thing as a “bad” Shelby Mustang? Hell no there isn’t. But this green machine has one ace to play: it’s unrestored. It looks that good, it’s got a little over 83,000 miles on the clock, and it’s unrestored. Somehow this Shelby managed to make it through the musclecar restoration craze unscathed. Things have been changed, for sure…the hood springs are gone and a prop rod has been installed so that the hood doesn’t bow in the middle and the fabbed panels behind the rear wheels to keep the rear quarters safe from rocks and rubber. That’s it. Everything else, from the 428 and C6 automatic to the 8-track player and Lucas fog lights are as they were when the seller bought the car in 1979.

An emerald-green Shelby GT500 that hasn’t been restored to better than new? I’d pay every last red cent and thank the seller for the privilege.
