Could You Resist This Minty Fresh 1974 Plymouth Satellite? Could You Resist Hot Rodding It?

Could You Resist This Minty Fresh 1974 Plymouth Satellite? Could You Resist Hot Rodding It?

Ooh, now this I like. I don’t care if you’re a Mopar person or not, you have to admit that seeing an untouched, unmolested 1974 Satellite coupe as it was the day it left the factory is a nice change of pace from a slightly rusted, slightly underdone Road Runner clone. There’s an honesty to it that is quite refreshing. Baby blue with a white top, blue interior, and the 360 cubic inch V8 that will put out decent, if not mind-blowing horsepower. Is it perfect, a time capsule that is already overvalued? Doesn’t appear to be…take a look at the speedometer, which is reading about 30 MPH sitting still.

Somewhere in this world, a Mopar collector is liking the idea of leaving this Satellite Plus alone and parking it for the rest of their natural lives. Another is picturing a 1974 Road Runner GTX clone in a high-impact color, maybe Tor Red? Still another won’t look at it at all, since it’s not a 1970 or older Mopar B-body. Such is life. The Satellite is nice, no doubt, but is it wrong to want to change a couple of small things? I’d fix details like the cracked dash pad and some minor trim issues with no guilt. But those steel wheels and hubcaps need to go for a set of Magnum 500s, and I would be on the hunt for the Rallye Gauge cluster pack with the tachometer. Would we do anything else? Doubtful…I’d leave pretty much alone after that and just drive the Satellite as-is. But that’s me…what would you do?

It’s fine as-is. There’s no need for another Road Runner clone, Repair it’s ills and drive.

I’m not a Mopar fan at all. Yet I would:
Find a floor shift console & buckets car, swap it over. New dash pad if it can be had (not sure don’t restore Mopars don’t know what is and isn’t made for them).
Find a 440 not the RV engine as they are different from car/light truck/van engines. (I forget what is different, something major that makes them not good for hot rodding). Aftermarket K-member have to use a 383/400/440 K member not the 16/318/340/360 unit. Road runner or GTX hood. Paint the hood a flat color even the same bule yet with flattening agent. Maybe swap the rear axle for a modified dodge truck Dana 60 rear with disk brakes.

Sell it off to a Mopar lover and pocket a profit.
