The Plum Wagon: This 1989 Chevrolet Van Is The Perfect Mix Of Custom And Conversion Van!

The Plum Wagon: This 1989 Chevrolet Van Is The Perfect Mix Of Custom And Conversion Van!

A custom van is exactly what you think of when you think “vanning”: pimped out interior that you never want to shine a black light at or let a drug dog near, naked-lady murals, sidepipes, mag wheels, and all sorts of interesting modifications. A conversion van is one of those super-fluffy vans you could find in the 1980s, 1990s and even today in small numbers. They are meant to be the ideal long-distance cruiser, somewhere just under an RV in luxury but still abounding with creature comforts to make the trip nice and pleasant. The thing is, neither one on their own are really desirable. If you want a disco wagon, that’s on you, but most people can do without all of the tricks, and the conversion van is usually too fat and fluffy for it’s own good. Comfort is nice, but having a 400 pound bench seat that has more excess fluff than Uncle Jim and Aunt Brenda is a bad thing.

You can hold whatever opinion you want to on the color of this 1989 Chevy van, but the execution is solid. Captain’s chairs and a power rear bench all the way in the back of the box provide ample seating yet leave the cargo space open. The floor is vinyl plank, so no worries about cleaning stuff out of shag carpeting. A 24″ television and a Blue-Ray player will keep the rear passengers occupied as the miles go by. THe only real knock we can give the van is that it’s powered by a 4.3L V6…but that might be alright for fuel economy’s sake. All in all, this Chevy looks like a neat all-in-one vehicle: drive it anywhere and camp in the back when you get there!

1989 rust free Texas Chevrolet shorty van. Custom black diamond quilted vinyl interior. No windows. Sliding side door with extended hinge to clear the wider tires. Power folding rear seat and captains chairs out of a conversion van.  Vinyl plank flooring. Custom cabinet that houses a deep cycle battery and power inverter. Cabinet also has a blue ray player and powered antenna. 24″ led tv on a fold down bracket. Double din in-dash stereo/dvd player with back up camera. Multi color led interior lighting. Battery isolator system for charging the deep cycle battery or the battery can be charged by an extension cord. The chassis has new leaf springs, coil springs, shocks, idler arm, pitman arm, alternator, windshield, grill, headlight bezels, headlights, weather stripping, window seals, both batteries, receiver hitch. New paint last July.

That’s a lot of cash for a ordinary Chevy van. I would need to see it close up to tell what’s the over all condition of the car and the workmanship of the interior. It sure looks nice, and might be worth every dollar. I liked these vans better when they had the old straight sixes, but, COULDA HAD A V8!
