Has it really gotten to the point that anytime my wife and I drive by the dealership and there are more than three vehicles in a row that aren’t black, silver, white, gray or sand colored, that it’s worth getting excited about? It has. Colorful Jeeps, the strangely colored Mitsubishi Mirages, even a bright red Chevy Colorado ZR2 on the plinth outside of the dealership are now noteworthy, only for the color. It’s been a sea of muted shades for the most part for what seems like years, with only certain models showcasing something bright and colorful, and even then rarely. Some manufacturers get it: Holden offered bright colors like yellow, orange, red and green on their Monaro and Commodore products, Dodge has been good about having reaching into the back catalog and pulling out a random hue or two as a special deal, and both Ford and Chevrolet punted out a bright shade of green in recent years on their pony cars.
Allpar was recently at the LX Springfest event held in Pomona, California, where the found FCA testing out some options for new colors. On hand they had a Challenger T/A painted “Fortuno’s Gold”, a color named for the event founder, and a bunch of paint bucks for some potential new shades that include “Wicked Witch” (dark green), “My Boy Blue”, “Root Beer” and “Toe-Tag”, which is correctly named. Other shades included “Sylvester” (very light gray), “Garbage Can” (aluminum gray), “Michigan Salt”, and “Mustard Stain” (which kind of looks like the Great Pumpkin Mustang’s orange shade!)
I personally could not be happier to see more actual colors. Right now at the local Dodge dealership, an Octane Red Charger is parked next to an F8 Green Challenger, which had been parked next to a blue Hellcat Charger up until recently. While I’m not in a rush to personally see another bright yellow any time soon, darker greens, brighter reds and any metallic brown that gives off a coppery shine sounds amazing. What color would you like to see on a new vehicle?
I would have to say Ford Mystichrome, it always looked cool and changed color depending on how you looked at it.
Marina Blue!
It seems most colors today are mixed with gray and are not true colors
More Blues and Greens and the root beer too.
B5 blue. Awesome color on a muscle car.
Nassau blue. Love that color.
AMC Golden Lime is my favorite, though the modern Jeep Rescue Green Metallic is nice too. I would love to be able to get a new truck in a non-metallic solid and white two tone like the ochre yellow, or medium green C10s.
