Any of you regular BangShifters know that Brian and I have a not so hidden desire to each own a Trar. Trars are Trucks that have Car bodies for those of you not in the know. We have shown plenty of them here on BangShift.com, and for the most part think everything from late-model El Caminos to early Corvettes are fair game for a full-size truck chassis swap. So when Rich Hintze sent us the link to this one titled “When creativity becomes sacrilege” we just couldn’t resist.
BUT… this crazy crew cab ’55 Chevy car body on top of some who knows what truck chassis is not working for us. It needs work, and it looks to have been put together a long time ago, but the most redeeming quality we can find so far is some of the good patina on it. Could we fix it and make it cool? Probably.
What do you think? Is it worth $500?

Noooooooooo!
Actually, other than some puney looking wheels/tires and the rear axle looking to be too far forward; it works for me. For some reason it doesn’t look quite as obvious as a car on truck frame as a lot of the Trars that have been shown. Kinda like an American Sugga.

I am completely on board with the “trar”. There is a lot of territory available here for creative exploration.
I remember back in the early ’90’s, seeing a ’57 Chrysler hardtop way(!) up on some kind of 4X4 chassis, with gigantic tires.
Yes, is was every bit as jaw droppin’ awesome as you might imagine it would be.
In second place, I have seen a Mercedes Benz sedan a 4X4 chassis complete with a winch and camo paint. I’d love to pull up to the country club in that!
With some work maybe.
My neighbor has a 4 door tri 5 on a truck frame, with a wrap around T-Bird rear seat. There isnt a lot left of the body. He is one of those guys that’s gonna restore it one day.
A friend of mine has a ’57 Wagon with an early D44 axle under the front, not a swaped in frame which is a bad way to do it. His is low and looks good with some 30 all seasons on it. Frame swaps are usually just a hot mess and sit too high
a pair of matched axles is worth $500, plus scrap going for $180 a ton…
wow! know where i could get one of those. when you fix it up, i think it will be the coolest ride one could own in this generation. Ion Alloy Wheels
