This 1964 Buick Riviera has a lot of awesome parts and pieces, in fact it may have too many awesome parts and pieces. The stance is pretty mean, the RideTech suspension is sweet, the 409, yeah 409, is a fish out of water and the wheel/tire package leaves a lot on the table for us.
Looking at the amount of custom metal work and fabrication done on this car, we have nothing but respect for the people who built it. They really sculpted a lot of steel to create this car. The custom dash and console are definitely artistic, but as far as we’re concerned, it is tough to beat the 1960s cool vibe of a factory interior in these cars. That giant console isn’t doing a whole lot for us.
One thing that seems really off the farm to us is what was done to the front end. The 1964 Riviera was such a landmark American car because of the styling Bill Mitchell came up with for it. This was a car that looked the part of the cutting edge European stuff. The look has held up magnificently over the decades as well. By taking the front end and mounting those big ass bug lights under the bumper and stuffing what looks to be a billet grill in the middle, all of that is gone. We dig the hood modifications, it makes the car more aggressive, but the other stuff just seems like someone changing something for the sake of saying they changed it.
It is tough for us to say that a 409 is weird in anything, but we think that a 409 is weird in this car. The motor is full house as well, a Lamar Walden built, full roller engine. That mother must really crank out the music.
We have no idea what the reserve on this car is, but we’re betting that stratospheric may describe it. It is certainly an attention getter. We’re just not sure it is for the right reasons.
