eBay Find: A Real Deal Steel 1948 Austin Gasser

eBay Find: A Real Deal Steel 1948 Austin Gasser

If you’re in the market for a gasser project, we’ve found the perfect starting place for you. This 1948 Austin is a legit gasser built in the 1960s by a group of buddies in California and campaigned in the B/Gas category with a 1959 Dodge 383 for power. There is so much neat stuff happening with this car that it would be almost catastrophic to do anything but put it back to the condition it raced in.

Stored since the late 1960s, the car has been a virtual chicken coup waiting for a willing person to come along and make a reasonable offer. A 4-speed Hydro transmission spun 5.12 gears in the back end and acted as a foot rest for the driver as the car went down the track. It was cramped quarters in there!

Stored outside for a “long time” as described by the seller, the original steel body appears to have come through pretty good. Hell, we’d just letter the door and go racin’!
