eBay Pick of the Week: An Odd Diesel With Endless Options

eBay Pick of the Week: An Odd Diesel With Endless Options

We’ve seen a bunch of guys build old trucks and ratty rod looking creations using Cummins 4BT engines. The small turbo diesels make creat torque and in a light car provide lots of zip and anvil-like reliability. Here’s the thing, we can steer you in a better direction.

Detroit Diesel made four cylinder engines as well, and these are two strokers so they’ll scream like mothers. While they may not package nearly as well as the smaller Cummins, with a well matched turbo they’ll make major snot.

This example is a running engine that was pulled from an Earth scraping machine, we’d take that to mean that the machine was repowered or scrapped. Either way, this thig could be yours for $1,500.

We think it would be killer in a 1950s or early 1960s medium-duty truck. Hook it to an Allison six speed automatic transmission and make use of all that low end torque.
