2012 Run to the Shore Autocross Action Gallery

2012 Run to the Shore Autocross Action Gallery

(Photos by Dave Nutting) – While the NJ Motorsports Park road course gave the participants in the 2012 Run to the Shore some high speed thrills, it was the autocross that truly tested the agility and mettle of their cars. The course was laid out by members of the SCCA’s south New Jersey region and it was a good one. We found it to be pretty large by autocross standards and it allowed the competitors to shine in areas of acceleration, braking, and turning. As you will see in these photos, virtually every car has a “personality” on the autocross. Some turn flat while others look like a ship caught in rough seas.

The awesome Nova of Billy Utley proved to be the quickest through the cones at the Run to the Shore. The car is a wonderful example of how far one can take the pro touring genre. That being said, you will see cars far more mild than Utley’s in this gallery getting it done in more than respectable fashion. The autocross really highlights how balanced a car is. Too much power and you are a tire smoke machine, not enough brakes and you’ll be plowing cones like a bulldozer, etc.
