Our photo coverage of the 2015 OPGI Classic Car Show continues. OPGI is in a pretty interesting business. They are in the replacement parts side of the industry and they specialize in GM models that range through the Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac. While those cars may have shared some basic similarities, they all had very different personalities and that’s one of the things to think about while looking at these photos. In today’s world we have a few pretty basic shapes that cars have defaulted to for a variety of reasons. There are copy cat designers, there are regulations on impact protection, and there are aerodynamic concerns as well. Back when these classics were built the only concern was to create and build something that a LOT of people wanted to buy.
Just pay attention to the differences between the Cadillacs of the late 1940s/early 1950s and those of the 1960s as shown in the images above and below. From the round moving shapes to the creases and tight edges that came to denote one of the brand’s most bold and iconic styling periods, there were cars that change with the cultures that they were built in. Something tells me 50 years from now OPGI will still be in business supporting those people restoring today’s future classics but even the best of today cannot hold a candle to these beauties of yesteryear.
