Last weekend the Lee Hartung collection was auctioned off. Unfortunately we were late on the trigger letting you know that, but luckily Bob Chiluk made it there before the auction and documented the awesome mass of stuff Hartung gathered over the years. In the scrap and general hauling business, Hartung saved everything from pedal bikes to cars to motorcycles, and radial engines.
Hartung had a good eye on the right stuff to keep. According to Bob Chiluk, Hartung collected a lot of this stuff from wealthy Chicago residents who were junking it. Hell, there is an ancient Ford in this gallery with an experiemental body on it that used some aluminum panels. Unobtanium! If you dig old bicycles and motorcycles, like the Indian below, this gallery will blow your mind.

I heart Junk!
It was an awesome sight. Here are the 200+ pictures I took at the auction on Saturday.

I wonder what the red 40 Ford convertible went for? And some of those pedal cars. Amazing collection of stuff.
We are going to see more of this type of auction as some of the older collectors pass on and the family sells of the collections.
Did he fix up anything, or did he just buy it and hoard it?
Holy Crap! Damn, droolin on my keyboard again.
The auction brought in a cool 4 million.

Maybe now some of these cool items can be restored and enjoyed, not hoarded and collecting dust.
His wife deserves a medal…
I kept having to tell myself to close my mouth while looking at that stuff. Freakin’ unbelievable.
