Car Show Gallery: The 5th Annual Johnny Mac Backyard Classic

Car Show Gallery: The 5th Annual Johnny Mac Backyard Classic

(Photos by Donna Green) – The coolest car show I attended in 2011 was the Johnny Mac Backyard Classic. Unfortunately, my announcing schedule didn’t allow me to attend this year, but thanks to Donna Green, we all have the chance to check out the good times as she shot a load of photos and shared them with us. As you’ll remember, this show is put on by a local business owner and it is held in his spacious backyard. His backyard is cool than yours because several HUNDRED cars show up to participate in the fun, eat burgers, bench race, and enjoy the weather.

The weather was a little more interactive than last year, with a hard and fast rain shower coming through, but a little weather didn’t dampen the fun and shockingly, no cars melted. All of your cloth diaper wiping, weather fearing car owners, take note. No cars were harmed in the making of this car show! People hung out in Johnny’s shop while the rain passed over and then soaked up the sun every afternoon.

I’m pretty sad to have missed the gathering this year as it was truly a riot in 2011. This gallery stands as proof that a great time was had by all. The other cool thing about the show is that the range of cars is all over the map. Old school mail Jeeps, pre-war classics, lots of restored muscle cars, a couple of really snotty street machines, and (a personal favorite) vintage heavy trucks all decorated the lawn for the day.

Here’s a big BangShifty thank you to Donna for the great photos and a vow that we’ll BE THERE in 2012….we just have to decide on cruising  Brutus the vintage wrecker, or Project Buford T Justice, our in-progress Caprice. Decisions…decisions.
