(Words and photos by Bryan McTaggart) – After a great first day, we hit the sack that night excited for the prospect of tomorrow. We woke the next morning and after a Holiday Inn breakfast, we drove around for a bit trying to decide between the cruise out to the Mill Creek Battlefield a few miles away or to sit at the Dodge dealership for a car show. Both events kicked off at nine a.m., but after seeing nothing but ‘Cudas and new Challengers in the Dodge lot, we went on the cruise. Mill Creek was the site of a vicious Civil War battle, situated near beautiful Fishing Creek. About ten cars drove out to the museum, where we were treated to a free tour of the museum and a history lesson on the battle. From the museum, we moved out to the Confederate line of battle, about two miles away, where a 2.5” cannon was set up for firing. After they drafted SGT McTaggart into the war, I was made a cannon loader. A quick lesson was given on how to properly operate the cannon, then we proceeded to shatter the morning silence with several volleys of fire.
Reeking of cordite, we drove back to the dealership, with an hourleft of the show. Pulling in, I parked my Imperial and was immediately approached by several individuals who were curious about the car. The show had grown dramatically since the early morning, and was in full swing. We ate some free food and walked around, looking at the rides, until it was time to line up and drive out to the actual Cruise location, which is in the historical downtown Somerset. Picture a line of cars nearly two miles long. That was just for the Mopar side of the house. The square was filled. Walking around sipping a Dairy Queen shake, snapping pictures, knowing full well that I wasn’t going to be able to get every car sitting…it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I’ll be going back next month. It’s Chevelles for June, and the side trip is at the dragstrip.

How about that big block Mopar pwered Valiant !!! That’s imagination!
Thanks for the coverage!
You gotta stay and ‘cruise the strip’ with us in June!
I’m hoping to. Finances are a real question, but trust me, for our first visit, me and the wife were very impressed, not only with the show in general, but the professionalism of the staff and the organization. Very well done concept.
