Drag Gallery: Killer Sportsman Action From RT 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois

(Photos by Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk) – BangShift’s two man photog platoon, Bob Chiluk and Greg Rourke took to the famous Rt 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois last weekend to shoot some bitchin’ sportsman action. The boys did a great job capturing the cars, the pits, and the action on the track during a bracket race last weekend. They were blasting away for the better part of two hours when the rains came in and washed the day out. We love this gallery because it really gives a great impression of the amount of diversity in grassroots drag racing. From the freakishly chopped Buick Regal to the spotlessly clean classic muscle cars, this is what drag racing is all about to us.

Greg and Bob won’t be making themselves strangers to Rt 66 Raceway anytime soon as they fell in love with the place upon being showed around by the track staff. Rt 66 is nationally known as a killer drag plant which hosts an NHRA national event, the NMRA/NMCA Superbowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, a thriving bracket program, and a bunch of cool match races. If you are in the Joliet area and are not supporting this place, you need to be!

Hit the link below to see Greg and Bob’s great work and get a taste for some of the neatest drag rides in the middle of the country. A Pinto with a 600ci BOSS 9 engine? Hello, that is bad ass!

Hey Ralph, Slammer is right, it is a 76 Buick Regal not a 80. Furthermore, the car was built by his Dad,( The legendary engine builder) Tom Mroz, before he passed away. It is great to see Mroz Racing continue with the next generation.
