(Photos by Charles Wickam) – As Spring has sprung all over the country (aside from some sections of Arizona apparently) race tracks and facilities are throwing their doors open to hot rodders looking to blow the cobwebs out of their cars and to guys interested in finding out how much quicker they will be this year with their new speed equipment bolted on. Charles Wickam, our man in Texas hit the vibrant eighth-mile strip at Houston Motorsports Park to take in the action a week or so ago. He sent us back a great gallery of sideways, wheels up, tire smoking drag strip action that has our own blood pumping in anticipation of the local drag plant opening back up in our neck of the woods.
HMP is known for being the set of some insane carnage and wreckage videos on the web. In reality, they probably have as much wild stuff happen as any other strip, but there always seems to be someone there with a still camera or video camera to capture the action. No race cars were harmed in the shooting of this gallery, but there were some close calls and Charles caught them! There were also a bunch of bad ass wheelstands and he snapped those too.
