Event Coverage: Tulsa Nitro Nationals Photos Including Derek Snelson’s Fiery Funny Car Run

Tulsa Raceway Park puts on great events each and every week, and last weekends Nitro Nationals were as exciting as we expected. It may have been a little more exciting than Derek Snelson was expecting, but at least he put on a good show when his Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car caught fire on the teams best pass to date. Thanks to Chris and the gang at Max Cackle, we’ve got great photos too. Derek’s had a wild ride behind the wheel of Glen Solano’s “Invader” Oklahoma based Nitro Funny Car was their career best pass with a 5.70 at 225 mph but the engine let go at the big end. Driving like John Force, Derek braved a wall of flame in his face and got the car stopped and was out before he could get hurt. The same can’t be said for the car, but the team will get it all fixed up we’re sure.

Shawn Bowen ended up taking home the win in the Nitro Funny Car final over John Hale. Texan Richard Brady laid down career best numbers and took home the win in the Southwest Junior Fuel Association class and David Seacrest claimed the Texas Blown Fuel Association win in his blown front engine dragster.
