We had the chance to spend some time at the Mickey Thompson exhibit that was recently installed in the Wally Parks NHRA Museum in Pomona, California. Thompson has been called the greatest hot rodder who has ever lived and by looking at this incredible crossection of his work, we agree.
He had hands in all elements of racing and hot rodding. His parts business was huge, he ran Lions Drag Strip, he chased land speed records, raced fuel burning dragsters, tried Indy, ran Baja, and lived his life at 400mph.
Thompson was certainly no angel and his mechanical obsessions dominated all aspects of his life. Few things mattered more than going fast, selling parts, setting records, and promoting Mickey Thompson. They truly broke the mold when they made the man. There has never been another like him and there probably never will be again.
