One last collection of photos featuring these round mounds of 1940s goodness. I think all of us that are into cars appreciate the evolution of their design. Not just in the mechanical sense but in the visual sense as well. When you pay attention to the cars that are featured in this gallery and look at the stuff that came immediately before and after them you see see that the designs of the early and later 1940s (due to WWII, there was little auto production, hence little change in the middle 1940s) were a transitional period and it makes sense when a car like the 1949 Ford with its tight lines and defined box shape was such a big deal when it hit the streets. The 1948 Ford had all kinds of bulbous rounded shapes but in 1949 it all got pulled taught and that design heavily influenced the 1950s direction with cars like the tri-five Chevrolets, Virgil Exner’s “forward look” Chryslers, and a host of others.
Like yesterday, this gallery features some of Joe Grippo’s favorites from the show and by proxy of that, some of our favorites of the show as well. He picked interesting cars with BangShifty personality to share and we dig that. No junk, all cool stuff. Hell, we’re not sure that there was a spec of junk at this show at all. Even the cars in the background of what you’re supposed to be seeing in these photos are flipping awesome. We gotta go to this thing in 2015!
