(Words and photos by Bryan McTaggart) – Somerset, Kentucky claims to be “The Car Cruise Capital of Kentucky”. Since 2001, the Somernites Cruise is a monthly cruise hosted between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For the Memorial Day weekend this year, the theme of the show was Mopar. Since we had a Mopar on hand to bring to the show and had plenty of time off, we decided to go see what the show was all about.
The second we pulled into Somerset, you could tell that things were going to be good. A ’70 Torino, ’68 Road Runner and a 50-ish Mercury lead sled were at the light as we pulled into the hotel parking lot.
Friday night was the Friday Night Thunder meet at the Somerset Mall, just off of US 27. Having been to a similar setup at the Pavillions in Tempe, Arizona, I can say that the Friday Night Thunder meet was smaller in size but just as diverse.
