That’s right, kids! Chad and I were the last men standing in the Bonneville impound lot last night, so we know who is running for records today. By the time you read this, we’ll be on the salt watching and paying close attention to see who can turn the trick and put their names in the historic SCTA record book, even if just for a fleeting moment. There’s a long way to go this week and some of these records will change hands multiple times. Now, before we go on. A few of the cars we’ll mention below do not have photos available. Why? They ran earlier in the day and had their cars all covered up and were long gone by the time the salt cleared out. When competitors “qualify” for a record, they report to impound within one hour of a run. Once in impound they have four hours to work on your car before you need to leave until the next day.
This morning, each competitor will have one hour to wrench on their stuff before hammering the gas on the starting line at sun up. Some of the real “magic” at Bonneville happens in those dark hours with the impound lot illuminated by the headlights of tow vehicles ringed around it. It is obviously a BIG DEAL to qualify for a record, but there’s no guarantee that the record is in anyone’s pocket. Anything can happen out here, so while these competitors are “half way” home, there’s still a long way to go for everyone in impound.
Without further adieu, here’s the list of competitors running for glory this morning. We’ve included photos of the cars that were uncovered and the plain information on cars that were covered up!
