(Words and photos by Scott Liggett) – We love the small towns of America. Car shows right on the cobble stone streets of one are great. Lexington’s 4th Annual Thunder in the Valley was just that. Held on the main street of downtown, the show supported local charities and the town itself.
A couple Saturdays ago, our reporter, Scott Liggett, took a drive forty minutes west of his hometown to the small town of Lexington, NE. He followed a friend’s fully restored ’52 Suburban to Lexington early Saturday morning and snapped some great pictures for us.
Every town has a history, and Lexington is no different. It was originally called Plum Creek and settled in 1860 just north of the Platte River. Sitting right along the Oregon Trail, then the transcontinental Railroad built by the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroad passed right by. The Lincoln Highway, State Hwy 30, sits nearly on top of the trail settlers took on their wagon trains west. Now, Interstate 80 passes just to the south of Lexington.

Liggett grew up in the middle of Nebraska and had never been to a tractor pull? Please tell me that he at least spent some time at Kearney Raceway Park where they are celebrating 50 years of drag racing.
