Last week, we ran a collection of cars from the 2014 Viva Las Vegas car show that featured patina and old worn paint. The reaction was interesting because some people were into it and lots of others weren’t. The overall impression was that “patina” may have become more about laziness than anything else. While we’re not sure that we agree with that exact assessment, looking in on what people had to say made us actually think about our genuine feelings on the matter and we’re not too proud to say that it definitely got our wheels turning.
There’s something that will always been appealing about a car that’s rough around the edges or looks as though it were plucked directly from a barn and brought to a show. That’s the truth, but when you look at these 52 cars it is virtually impossible to deny how cool they all are. Longtime BangShift readers will be stunned to see a post 1957 Ford Thunderbird actually in a featured position on the blog because, well, we (ok I) like them about as much as pickled fish livers…BUT…look at the paint on the car below and tell us how it doesn’t rule.
Great paint (to us anyway) isn’t about colors and schemes so much as it is about how the whole package works with the car. We may not love the specific hues that all of these cars wear but we love the way they car wear them. The body styles and eras of these cars are all over the place but the one thing we really dig is that they all wear their colors proudly.
Sorry but flat or satin paint is not awesome paint. They look just that flat.
