Our seemingly unending stream of coverage from Viva Las Vegas 2014 continues with this gallery which features about 50 cars you have not yet seen from the show. The theme of this gallery is patina and/or aged paint. We let all the semi-rough looking stuff into this one whether the patina was “honest” or not. While we can’t say that we’re big fans of the whole faux patina idea, there are examples of it that are pretty well done in this gallery.
As often happens in hot rodding, a movement that starts as a bit of a fringe ends up capturing the imagination of the masses and soon overtakes and basically becomes the very thing that it was supposed to oppose in the first place. What do we mean? When patina first became an “in thing” it was as a basic protest to the overly done, wildly painted street rods of the time. Now we have guys paying umpteen sums of money to painters to basically recreate the look of the patina they want to stand out against super nice custom paint.
That being said, we love the looks of these cars. Hit the link below to see them all –
Maybe folks like crappy looking cars. But to me when the primer starts showing through the color coat it’s time for a paint job.
My 40 Ford is going to look like this for a while because I cannot afford paint and bodywork. I just like driving it.
Man I hate the whole patina scene, paint that SOB!
