Events for Jim Deist and Lynn Wineland

Events for Jim Deist and Lynn Wineland

It’s always a tough thing to swallow when we as a community of hot rodders, racers, and enthusiasts lose people who are instrumental in the history we all hold so dear. This year has already shown us that time waits for no man, and a couple of great names have left our company.

The good news is that these are men who will be remembered for all the good stuff they did to enhance the hobby, increase safety, and innovate in the creative spirit of hot rodding’s evolution.

Safety pioneer Jim Deist and publishing legend Lynn Wineland are being remembered at two different “celebrations of life” in the coming weeks. If you are in the greater Los Angeles area, or will be, these events will allow you to lean more about these two men from the people who they interacted with. You’ll also be in the company of some true greats.

Here’s the information on the celebrations:

Jim Deist’s Celebration of Life is 11AM, on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, enter Gate One, at 1101 W. McKinley Avenue, Pomona, California. The museum is on the Los Angeles County Fairplex property. The Celebration of Life is open to all of Jim’s friends in land speed, drag racing, oval, boats and other forms of motorsports..

Lynn Wineland’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles, California. Call the museum at 323-964-6348 for more information. The Celebration of Life is open to all the friends of Lynn who wish to attend. Lynn coined the word: “Go-Kart” and was a prominent member of the Petersen Publishing and Motor Trend groups.
