Exclusive: Incredible Group of Ford Rods, Muscle, and Factory Race Cars Up For Private Sale

We really, honestly, do not know where to begin. When our friend Jim, the guy behind Project Fat Lane, the 1964 Thunderbolt look-a-like race car we are tracking, let us know that he was going to be trimming his Ford collection down by a few cars, we were all about helping him get the word out. When we learned exactly what was going to be sold, our jaws hit the floor. This is one of the most amazing collections of Ford cars for sale we have ever run across, and the crazy part is, this is just a slice of his stuff. It includes a real Thunderbolt, a real 1963 1/2 lightweight Galaxie, a real R-Code Galaxie, and nine more simply amazing blue oval cars ranging from hard core drag machinery to vintage retro-rod, to world class hot rods. If you’re a gawker or a buyer, you need to check this out.

There’s not a junker in the mix, and it is important to note that absolutely everything you’ll see, and you’ll see alot as we gave each car its own gallery, is original sheetmetal. Jim has never, nor will he ever buy a car that is rotted. With the exception of the ’32 Ford roadster, which sports a Brookville steel body, these are all original steel cars with a couple sporting their original factory paint.

All of these cars run, we know that for sure because we were jockeying them around during the day we spent shooting the photos of them all. The sounds of thundering big blocks, Hemis, and whining blowers are still echoing in our skull (and that is a good thing!).

Click on each one to see the full photo gallery!

If you are interested in purchasing any of these amazing cars please send an e-mail to [email protected]

Obviously, we request serious buyers only.

THE STREET CARS There are 12 cars for sale from Jim’s collection. We’re going to start with the street cars and move to the race cars. You’ll see a theme with 1940 Fords as they hold a sweet spot in Jim’s Fordnatic heart.

– Weber topped 350 — 5 speed Richmond Transmission: This is a car that Jim describes as a driver and it is one of the nicest you’ll ever see. The car came from Lyn, Kansas, and has legit bootlegging heritage. It has all the original sheet metal, painted Henry Ford black. The body has not been altered in any way other than for paint, which is immaculate as laid down by noted hot rod builder Jim Lowrey. The engine is a 430hp 350 and the trans is a 5-speed Richmond. Price $50,000

Unrestored '40 Ford1940 Ford Sedan — Unrestored/unpainted body — 1964 ‘Vette 327 adapted to stock trans and stock rear end: This is a retro-rod in the truest form of the phrase. It’s an original Massachusetts car that has not been painted or restored. There are small dings, dents, and road rash on the fenders. The 327ci, 300hp, 1964 Corvette engine was installed by Jim, old school style. It was adapted to the stock Ford trans and the stock rear end is in the car as well. This car is an awesome cruiser and rod for anyone looking to roll in early 1960s period style. Price $22,000

Hemi powered '40 Ford1940 Ford Street Rod — 426 Hemi — 5-speed Richmond transmission: This all original steel body came from California and was turned over to Jim Lowrey Hot Rods for a complete soup to nuts build. Make no mistake, this is a high end, el perfecto hot rod that runs like a scalded cat, looks like a million bucks, and was built by some of the most talented craftsmen in the business. One of the finest ’40 street rods in existence without question. Price $110,000

Blown 514 Fairlane1964 Ford Fairlane 500 — Paxton blown 514ci BBF — AOD transmission — 9 second street car: This is a wicked street machine. It would be an awesome rig to take out on Drag Week or to simply cruise to the ice cream stand on Friday and drag race on Saturday. The chassis and roll cage has all been extensively worked over by Tube Chassis Designz, a noted Massachusetts chassis shop, the paint was laid on by Jim Lowrey, and the AOD trans was supplied by FB transmission. Jim has run 10.0 off of the footbrake, but now the car has a transbrake and 9-second ETs are virtually certain. Price $55,000

— 427 FE power — 4-speed: This car has a personal connection to Jim as he grew up in the same neighborhood as the owner and eventually bought the car. The other owner, the original owner, was the service manager at the Ford dealer where he bought the car. It was ordered with a bench seat, raising the cool factor in our eyes. The car has the original owners’ booklet with service information. It is all original, and has under 40,000 miles. Price $45,000

— EFI 472ci Hemi — 727 trans: This is a car you may be familiar with as it has made the magazine rounds and laps on the internet over the last year or so. It is an incredible, show stopping, subtle master work from the shop of Jim Lowrey. The body is a steel Brookville piece, the engine is a Mopar crate 472 topped with a Hilborn manifold fed by a BDS EFI setup. The interior, top, and basically every inch of the car has been massaged, build, or otherwise manipulated by the hands of skilled craftsmen. Oh yeah, it is faster than all hell. Price $125,000

1940 Ford Barn Find — 317 2×4 Pontiac: This car is an incomplete piece that was located in California and brought back to Massachusetts. The engine is mounted in the car, probably sometime in the 1950s, and nothing more was done. We have no photos of this car. The Pontiac 317ci 2×4-carb’d engine was a one-year option and is rare in itself. Price $10,000

THE RACE CARS

427 FE engine — 4-speed: This is one of the holy grail factory race cars that Ford produced. Featuring a fiberglass front end to shave weight off the portly Galaxie, Ford pulled out all the stops to compete with the Mopars that were tearing up drag strips across America. This car is original and documented. It is in fantastic shape and was a record holder all the way into the 1980s. Price $100,000

'69 Falcon1969 Ford Falcon — Kaase 514ci  n/a BBF — FB Transmission Powerglide: This is one angry little car. The Kaase horsepower means that you have a car capable of running bottom, and we mean bottom 9s in high heat and crappy air. Sitting on a 10.5W tire and a highly modified stock chassis by Tube Chassis Designz, this car has seen the track only a couple of times. The car sports its original granny paint job and even a couple of small dings. We dig the hell out of this car’s look and street tough attitude.

— 428CJ — 4-speed — 1 of 1 Marti Report: This car has slightly more than 11,000 original miles, and after running a Marti report on it, Jim was awestruck to learn that it is the only 1968 Mustang with a 428CJ motor that was painted white, packed with 4.30 gears, had blue interior, and the fold away rear seat. The car seems to have been a drag race machine since at least 1971 as NHRA national event decals indicate. Price $100,000

Cyclone Cobra Jet1968 Mercury Cyclone — 428CJ — Automatic: This car is a true drag racing time capsule. From the original, vintage, hand painted lettering to the original 428CJ motor that was tuned by legend Al Joniec, to the myriad of winner stickers on the window, this car is absolutely one-of-a-kind. The interior is factory fresh as the car has been a racer from nearly day one. The motor is the same combo that Joniec tuned on 40 years ago. Price $55,000

Thunderbolt1964 Ford Thunderbolt — 427 HR — Automatic — #93 of 100 — fully documented: The crown jewel. One of the most rare and historic factory produced race cars in the history of the Ford Motor Company. This car has the full history with it and has been restored to exact factory specs. All the parts and pieces are original to the car. The amazing bundle of snakes headers, the boxed steel ladder bars, the square tube rear cross member. It is all complete and it runs like it is 1964 again. There are few cars that have the mystique of the Thunderbolts. They rank as the most serious factory produced or commissioned drag cars right next to the 1968 Hemi Barracudas and Darts. This is one of the finest examples of these rare as Unicorn Fords left on planet Earth. Price $330,000.00

    Jim Sartori,

Jim-I owned #93 TBolt from 1971 to 1974. I would like to see the car one more time if possible. It holds a lot of special memories for me. The mileage on the car was put on by me since I drove it back and forth to college from Cicero, Ny to Potsdam, Ny @ Clarkson College of Technology.
    Could you please contact me?

    Thanks, Len
