Feds Get Green Light to Auction Cars Seized in Fraud Case of Utah Man

Some time ago we reported on the case of Jeffrey Mowen, the man accused by the federal government of scamming millions of dollars out of unwitting investors, and later plotting to kill people. The car-guy connection to this case is Mowen’s collection of 200 cars which are going to be sold by the government because the expense to house them during the trial is too high. Mowen does not sound like the nicest guy on the block, but the idea of selling someone’s junk before they are found guilty is creepy to us. Mowen tried to stall the process but a federal magistrate recently ruled that auction could take place.

Perhaps the final straw for the magistrate was the new revelation that Mowen recently tried to hire another inmate to kill witnesses involved in his case. He communicated with the man using morse code, but unfortunately, that guy was wearing a wire and sold him up the river.

Mowen claims that the cars are gathering value at a clip faster than $21,000 a month. This seems to be one con-job that no one is falling for, especially the government.

The proceeds from the sale (the date of which has yet to be announced) will be placed in escrow and if Mowen walks, he gets the money. There are a few interesting cars in the lot, but there’s also a high percentage of odd junk that we don’t care for.

We’ll keep you posted on dates and pertinent info for the auction when that information becomes available.
