Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: Lutz Says Caprice is a No Go; We Say All Hope is Lost

Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: Lutz Says Caprice is a No Go; We Say All Hope is Lost

After getting the gearhead world all cranked up with news that the defunct Pontiac G8 may survive as a Chevy Caprice, it now seems that’s not going to happen.

By our stopwatch, it only took Lutz about a week on the job with this new “marketing” gig to step on his junk in a big way. Shortly after he initially posted the good news on the GM FastLane blog, the internet was buzzing about the car and those of us with 110 octane in our veins were loving life and holding onto a shard of hope that cool stuff would still be designed and built.

How stupid were we?

We’re thinking a couple more episodes like this one and we’ll be reading about the 77-year-old Lutz retiring again. What sucks really big is that he also said that nothing from Holden will be coming stateside for the forseeable future. We take that to mean that the Camaro and Cadillac CTS will remain the only two rear-wheel-drive cars in the line up.

This one sucks all around because Lutz looks like he’s been neutered, we’re losing a shot at a cool car, and it is just another indication that the fun police are running the show. Bleck.
