Gearhead Destination: Lime Rock Park

Gearhead Destination: Lime Rock Park

Baseball has Fenway Park and road racing has Lime Rock. It’s a little 1.53-mile bandbox of a road course, but the place reeks of history and has been the site of some of the greatest moments in American road racing.

With a track comprised of areas like No Name Straight, Big Bend, and The Esses, it has a language and feel all its own. The track is located in the town of Lakeville, Connecticut, and has been around since 1957.

It has some strange operating quirks as well, like it’s inability to hold any type of racing on Sunday and a limitation of how many loud race days that the facility is allowed to have over the course of a season.

As a spectator, the place to hang out is on spectator hill, located on the front end of the course, as you’ll be able to see the cars coming down the straight and then whip sawing themselves through the rest of the turns.

There will be historic races happening during Memorial Day Weekend and we’re working on an escape plan to go down and check them out!

Hit the track site here for the full story of this great racetrack.
