GM to Recall Corvettes Due to Potential for Roof to Fly Off

Imagine the horror. You’ve just put on freshly pressed slacks, a brand new sweater, and your golf shoes are all polished up. You kiss the missus on the cheek and zip off with your clubs in the back to meet the boys at the country club. Half way there you notice a strong breeze in the cockpit of the car and you realize that the roof has blown off your ‘Vette! GM is recalling more than 20,000 2005-2007 Corvettes to replace the roof panel with a newly designed unit.

According to a Detroit News story, GM blames the problem on the adhesive used to bond the panel to the frame that carries it. Back in 2006, GM recalled more than 30,000 2005 and 2006 Corvettes for basically the same problem which they believed was isolated to hot weather states. Apparently, even those in the northern climes have to have roof separation anxiety as well.

We can’t image that this will be a cheap fix for GM, but some lucky supplier will cash in on the work to built the new panels.
