The destructive delight of Combine demolition derbies have been highlighted on the electronic pages of BangShift before. The huge, lumbering machines make wicked noise when they collide, and seeing a whole ring of the machines in battle must really be a spectacle. We found a great story that tracks the adventure of two men from Kansas as they locate and build a “demo” combine.
The story is very folksy and that makes us love it even more. The tone and pace is such a nice contrast to the frenetic world that our east coast office is located in. Plus there are great little vignettes in there, like a quick note about the first combine they found which was listed for sale at $2,000. The guys wrenched on it at the farmers house, got it to run and move, and the the farmer demanded $15,000 for it. They didn’t make the buy.
According to the story, the guys had about 50 hours into making the combine demo-legal. That time included lots of welding and cutting as certain parts of the machine are allowed to be braced and strengthened up for battle.
We want a turn behind the tiller of this bad boy! Hit the link below for the story, it really is a fun deal.
