Great Read: Ohio Man Reunited with Mopar Factory Racer He Bought New

Man this is cool! Harmon Friend walked into a Dodge dealer in 1965, threw down $4,600, and drove off with a genuine factory killer. It was a Hemi-powered lightweight Coronet. Ma Mopar built just over a hundred of the cars, with the majority going to factory teams. Friend was a privateer and had great success with this car. He sold it, but last August, was reunited with the car after it was restored by a new owner.

It is believed to be one of only 35 that currently survive. A collector located the car in a Texas barn completely intact aside from the engine. The car is being restored back to factory fresh condition with a date correct engine. How amazing is it that all the sheet metal survived without being bent, crinkled, and warped to death? 20 years in a Texas barn were kind to this Coronet. If you are a Mopar enthusiast that subscribes to some of the marque specific mags, you’ll see this car in the coming months as it has apparently been shot for a couple of features.
