I’m a huge fan of restoration videos, especially those that involved the fixing and rebirth of tools and working implements. In this video we watch a dude take a rusty, seized, and basically junked hand cranked 1890s blacksmith forge and restore it back to brand new functional condition. Yes, this is a simple machine but we we will see, the guy doing the work has to employ a great skillset to get it all right. From metalworking and fabrication to mechanical stuff, this is really fun to watch. We love the fact that this is not a job about simply replacing parts, rather it is a job of reviving things that most people would write off as too far gone.
Watching bolts snap off, watching tabs break off, and watching metal that has been heat cycled for 100 years get bitchy with the guy doing the work is cool. Why? Because this is real. It isn’t all just easy peasy take it apart and clean it up stuff. Watching him braze metal and battle with this old thing is part of the fun and undoubtedly part of the satisfaction of doing the job.
Keeping history alive is important (to us anyway) and it’s definitely neat to see the process on a unique item like this forge!
