Yesterday the much talked about Corvette C6.R GT2 road racing Corvettes were revealed to the world. These pieces, the follow up to the much heralded GT1 Corvettes, are set to begin hand-to-hand combat with Porsches and Ferraris on August 8th at Mid-Ohio Raceway. If there was a road race to attend this year, it would be Mid-Ohio, just to see how these killers do in their competition baptism.

Cosmetic changes include the ZR1-inspired body work and stock front fenders which are part of the rules package for the GT2 class. The old GT1 cars were able to be more creative with what they did to the sheetmetal. Interestingly, next season the car will have a 5.5 liter V8 supposedly based on the next generation of Chevrolet small-block. The engines will be assembled on the same line, at the same factory as the ZR1 Corvette plants. That’s the line we’d like to be working on.
