Here, Little Hellcat: Chevrolet Unleashes The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 And The 1LE Track Packages

Here, Little Hellcat: Chevrolet Unleashes The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 And The 1LE Track Packages

(Photos: General Motors) When the tagline for your new hot ride is, “Get used to our taillights,” things are getting serious, and Chevrolet has decided that getting sand kicked in their face by the Hellcat twins and the Shelby GT350 isn’t going to fly. The sixth-gen Camaro isn’t a shrinking violet by anybody’s means, but compared to their top-tier rivals…well, 455 horsepower isn’t going to cut it. So enter three answers to this problem: The Camaro ZL1, the Camaro V-6 LT 1LE, and the Camaro 1SS 1LE. All three will be serious handlers, a move that has been a Camaro trait for a couple of years now. The ZL1 is the expected heavy-hitter Camaro we’ve been expecting for a bit now, and it is going to be a wicked mother once they start appearing. The Camaro SS 1LE will get the ZL1’s electronic limited-slip differential and the FE4 suspension kit with the Magnetic Ride dampers, while the V-6 1LE gets the FE3 suspension from the Camaro SS as an upgrade. Believe us or not, while we can appreciate the ZL1’s power, the 1LE V-6 car sounds like it’d be the best bang for the buck. And remember, there’s the Z/28 moniker that has yet to appear…

DETROIT – The 2017 ZL1, the most powerful production Camaro ever, and the track-bred 1LE are designed to deliver exhilarating performance on both the open road and the road course, at prices that leave the competition behind.

When they go on sale later this year, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 will be priced at $62,135 for coupe models and $69,135 for convertibles. Prices include destination charge, but not tax, title and other dealer fees. The 1LE package is a $4,500 MSRP option on Camaro V-6 LT coupe models and $6,500 on the V-8 1SS coupe model. For LT coupes, the 1LE package features the Camaro SS’s FE3 suspension, while the 1SS benefits from the ZL1’s electronic limited-slip differential and FE4 suspension with Magnetic Ride dampers.

“The Camaro ZL1 offers supercar performance with daily-driver refinement, a combination that stacks up against any other sports coupe – at any price – around the world,” said Steve Majoros, director, Chevrolet marketing.

“Building on Chevrolet’s well-established recipe for track-focused performance, the new 1LE packages expand the performance envelope of the Camaro SS and, for the first time, the Camaro LT,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “You’ll be hard-pressed to find more track-capable cars in their respective classes for the money.”

    Technically and engineering wise, great.
But it looks like a child designed it? Too many bumps and angles for me.. And the front grill is like your looking through a magnifying glass at it permanently, weird.

Why do ppl keep going at the Hellcat, the Vett,Camaro and Mustang are all much lighter, so it’s not a fair comparison, take 500 or 600 lbs off the Hellcat and see.

Stunning performance from a V6. But the Camaro gets progressively uglier with each restyling. They’re chasing Lexus for the Ugliest Front End award.

Bill Mitchell must be rolling over in his grave…

I couldn’t agree more. The 5th and 6th gen Camaros are just fugly and ain’t improving with age!

Agreed. The Mustang at least has a throwback image, as does the Challenger. The Camaro, not so much.

I have always been a Chevy lover, but I got to admit, I am looking at Mustangs and Challengers. These are fugly and getting more so each time… and the user friendly interiors of the other two make them strong contenders for my Family Sports Coupe dollars
