Here’s Some More Detail on the Crazy Australian Time Attack Nissan

Less than two weeks ago, we showed you onboard video of Tim Slade obliterating the World Time Attack Challenge record at Sydney Motorsports Park. Slade, whose normal gig is driving a Holden Racing Team Holden Commodore in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, absolutely spanked the incredibly built Nissan S13 “Hammerhead” sponsored by Australian suspension builder MCA Suspension. In the time since, we’ve found a couple of great videos detailing more about the car.

The first comes from an High Performance Academy and is a chat with Murray Coote, who runs MCA Suspension. Coote goes over some of the finer technical points of the build, like how they eventually got rid of the stock-block Nissan SR20DET engine for a billet-aluminum block that would take the prodigious turbocharger boost thrown at it. The Hammerhead made nearly 900 horsepower when Slade smashed the record. Strangely enough, much of the billet block’s top end is completely stock components. Coote also covers some changes made to the car’s aero balance—no small feat with the incredible size of the front and rear wings—designed to plant the rear end more firmly.

MCA Suspension also released their own video, narrated by what sounds like an Australian attempting a Texan accent. It’s less a technical piece than it is a video postcard from the event, but just to gauge the sheer insanity of the Hammerhead, it’s worth a watch. That vieo also includes Slade’s record-setting lap.
