House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Other Auto-Regulating Politicians to Tour the Detroit Auto Show

As the AP has reported, “Months after the government took large ownership stakes in General Motors, Chrysler and auto lender GMAC Financial Services, top lawmakers and members of the Obama administration will be taking a close look at their investment.”

With a big stake in the companies in attendance, big government will now look over its wares, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and others on site for the Jan 16-24 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, seeking the best new limousines innovations for the future. Pelosi is quoted as saying politicians intend “to see firsthand the innovative technologies the industry is investing
in to create the jobs of the future and to ensure our national
competitiveness. We go to Detroit with our commitment to continue to
preserve our manufacturing base, which is essential to our economic and
national security.”

Continue to preserve our manufacturing base? When did that start?

Auto Show officials have said that there have been so many new requests for attendance from politicians that a new pass badge color was required to distinguish the government officials from the journalists. We wonder what the net carbon footprint will be from their cumulative travels to the show.
