Larry Dixon – The Real Story Straight From Larry Dixon

Larry Dixon – The Real Story Straight From Larry Dixon

Minutes ago, Chad spoke to Larry Dixon in the pits at Pomona. Their brief conversation centered around Dixon’s lack of a ride in 2012 and what his immediate plans are. This has been the biggest story of the NHRA off season and to this point Larry Dixon has been mum on what exactly went down with his Al Anabi ride, which went to Shawn Langdon about two months ago.

Here are the high points of the conversation:

Dixon told Chad in no uncertain terms that up until 45 days ago when Al-Balooshi was announced as an Al Anabi driver he thought he had a ride. Dixon got a phone call telling him that he was out and Al Balooshi was in. That was literally that. He learned about it at about the same speed as the rest of the world did. That’s a bit of a shock to us.

He also told Chad that he really wants to be in a competitive car and has had conversations about driving with many people. He is not interested in getting into something that is not championship caliber, which we can understand. He has had conversations with ESPN and NHRA with respect to working on the NHRA broadcasts for the short term. He told Chad that he enjoys doing TV commentary but really wants to get back into the seat of a car.

Dixon is working on his plan for 2013 and since he has had a total of 45 days since learning that he was out of a seat, he’s not had near enough time to put together a deal, team, etc for 2012. If something good comes up, he will jump at it but the reality is, he expects to be back out in 2013, not 2012. He really wants to be out on the tour but it will take the right deal to get him there. Dixon did not rule out owning his own team, and with a year to work in a deal, we may be talking about Larry Dixon Racing at the 2013 Winternationals.

Hmnnn, that sounds familiar? didn’t a “Driver” do something like that to Don Prudomme a few years ago? He’s living proof “what goes around, come around”!

On a side note…..Larry Jr and Sr are Grandmarshals for the March Meet this year….gonna be a great event.

So, this means that that we have to endure Chad as an announcer until the BangShift Top Fuel team is offered a deal on a championship-caliber ride?

Larry moving to the Al Anabi team a few years back freed up a car. No one was pushed out of a ride. What happened with him and Snake was wrong but different.
