Lex Joon and his team Top Fuel have decided to hit eBay in an effort to grab a sponsor or two that would enable them to run the final two races of the NHRA tour this season. Joon has been racing in Eurpoe for some time and was the 2005 FIA Top Fuel Champ.
The team has not been on the track thus far in 2010 and has concentrated on beating the bushed for sponsor dollars which are not easy to come by, especially for drag racing teams. Although the number of dollars that fuel teams are looking for are a mere pittance as compared to NASCAR operations, so is the audience. To put it in perspective, NASCAR’s loss of a million viewers from the broadcast of their New Hampshire equals the total number of poeple who watch an NHRA race on ESPN.
While this approach has certainly been taken before, it is a bit revealing when you can actually see what teams are looking for to run a race or two. The “Buy it Now” price of $85,000 seems like a reasonable price point for a company to expose itself to a large audience in two markets where the media is normally pretty good with the races, Vegas and LA.
Hit the link below to see the listing. If BangShift had an extra $85,000 in the bank, we’d be slathered all over this nitro burner!
Thanks to Shawn Anderson for the tip!
